Grey Lynn, Auckland. New Zealand. Cinco Cine is a film production company with a commitment to the Māori language that produces drama, documentary and children’s television programming. This project is their new office premises – settled within an existing building. The double height entry space slicing into a central communal area beds the design and allows the rest of the programme, offices and editing rooms, to take place around it. DMA likens this gesture to a forest clearing. Cinco Cine however believe it has a greater affinity with Rua Kenana’s round timber temple of worship at a kainga. The articulated ‘burnt’ balustrade reinforce their convictions.
