DMA wish to congratulate Nicholas Sevens and Gary Lawson for their winning 2010 HOME of the Year project sited in Wanaka.
It would seem that the judging of this years HOME of the Year award was primarily driven by critique of each buildings response to landscape, and rightfully so. As visiting international judge Charles Renfro (of Diller Scofidio + Renfro) correctly highlighted in his videoed commentary (presented at the awards ceremony), context and most specifically landscape, is an inherently New Zealand condition which was so clearly observed by each of the entries.
Steven Lawson Architects response to such an impressive New Zealand landscape is incredibly sensitive in form, material and arrangement of space to beautifully interact with the views, light and the weather. Congratulations.
Each of the finalists homes were featured in a three part series on Campbell live, viewable online:
Part One – featuring DMA’s Korora and Waikopua projects.
